Thomas Petch

One of 5 charged with murder, the two principal defendants fled the country before the trial. Thomas was convicted in their absence of joint enterprise murder and sentenced to 20 years.

When the principals were extradited they pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received 9 years. It was accepted that Thomas did not commit the offence or that he was in the room with the principals at the time. He is currently serving a Life sentence for Joint Enterprise manslaughter and will serve longer than the men that admitted they did the offence.
